Sanat – Vesala feat. UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra

The main part of the programme consists of music written by Paula Vesala for other artists, which she does not normally perform herself. The concert will feature hits born from the beloved songwriter’s pen – such as Johanna Kurkela’s ‘Rakkauslaulu’, Kaija Koo’s ‘Nää yöt ei anna armoo’ and Katri Ylander’s ‘Mansikkamäki’ – reborn as jazz arrangements. The audience will also be treated to a few rarer gems from Vesala’s solo career. Vesala’s moving lyrics and charismatic interpretation are accompanied by the 16‑member UMO and newly commissioned big‑band arrangements, to which the country’s top arrangers add extra power, colour and surprises. Conductor Jukka Eskola also shines as a trumpet soloist. This special ensemble will appear on stage only twice: at the Jyväskylä Pavilion on Friday, 22 January, and at the Helsinki Music Centre on Saturday, 30 January.
